May 22. —General Situation— An intense anti-cyclone now extends across the Tasman Sea on to New Zealand its central portion, reaching across the southern districts. Pressure is low, however, and conditions are still disturbed from Lord Howe Island iu beyond Norfolk -Island,

Winds: Light and variable, south of Grey mouth and Aharon; elsewhere, southerly to s.e.-; moderate to strong generally and reaching galo force at places, especially in North, Auckland.

Seas (N.Z. waters): Rather rough (O' laugh north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura andi still rising north of East Cape; elsewhere slight to moderate.

Eastern Tasman Sea; Easterly winds, moderate to strong generally with moderate to rather rough seas, but strong south-east winds to gales and rough to high seas inf the far northern portion. Weather: Mainly fine in the South Island; still changeable in the North Island, with further rain on the East Coast and over the northern half generally, some/ heavy falls being probable in the Far North 1 ; temperatures cold, with sharp inland frosts in the south.
