The investigation of the Townsend Afr.vcment halted suddenly to-day, when Air Townsend bolted from the committee meeting in a huff. He said he would* give no further testimony, and defied the House of Representatives to have him arrested. Air Townsend’s defiance followed the committee’s allegation that his organisation had used the mads to defraud in soliciting pennies from the inmates! of a. ATae-onic Home for aged people on th. 3 promise that they soon would lie awarded a; 206 dollar monthly pension.
Members of the. committee, indicated that Mr Townsend, would be cited for contempt-, possibly involving pro>Seention, and nunishment by a gaol sentence.
