A grave injustice lays in tlic fact that while the Human Catholic comnnuiity of JS : e\v Zealand contributes £600,000 toward State education'each year,.not one penny of that anionub was given by the Government for the maintenance of Catholic Church schools,' which cost another '£300,000, declared the Jtev. Father A. L. Burger, S.M., rector of St. Bedo’s College, at the opening of new classrooms at tlie Sacred Heart Convent, Addington. Catholic Schools, lie said, taught the finer points of religion, an essential which was. lacking in most State schools. Many who attended State schools wero very . devout, but without a church school education they woro not able to appreciate their religion to tlie full. Bishop Brodie also remarked on the patient way in which the Catholic community bore its double burden. ; - 'Jk' ;"v • ■ : ;
