ANOTHER POST OFFICE ENTERPRISE (Official.). WELLINGTON, May 21., Today the Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) stated that his department had made arrangements for a parcels service with tho Unton Airways Ltd., and Cook Strait Airways Ltd. “There will be a special charge for air tra-nsit of parcels’’, explained the Minister. “But the Post, Office will only retain an amount equalling that charged under its recently re dueed schedule of rates, the whole of the surcharge being paid to the aviation companies. “Aiv parcel) rates, contrasted with those for transit by ordinary methods, will be as .follows for the normal class of parcel:— 31b. Post Office charge fid; air charge Is) 6d ; total 2s. "lbs., Is, 2s 6d, 3s Gd. 1-llb., Is 6d, 3sj Gd, sfl. 21 lbs., 2s, 6s, Ss. 281b5.. 2s 6d, 7s Gd, 10s. “Long and bulky parcels such as fishing rods and umbrellas aro to bio carried at special rates. A 31b.* parcel of this: description costing 2s plus air charge, 2s Gd: a. 71b. parcel 2.<) Gd, plus 3s Gd'; and for 141 b. 3s plus the air charge of 4s Gel -
Parcels which arc over 4ft. Sin. in length and girth combined will be accepted at the following rates:—
31b., 2s plus air charge 2s Gd. 71b., 2s phis, 3s Sd. 141 b., ‘2s, plus 4s Sd. , 211 b., 2s, plus 6s. 281 b., 2s 6d, plus the air charge of 7s Gd.
“Films will bo carried at the following rates :
F-Ve films 9s Gd, plus 38s Gd. Four films, 7s Gd plus 33s Gd Two films, 4s, plus’ 18s, 6d. 1 One him, 2s plus 11s.
“The routes covered, by these companies by air are from Palmerston North to Dunedin v : a Blenheim (connecting with the Cook Strait service from Wellington) to Christchurch and Dunedin and reverse and the Cook Strait service between Wellington, Blenheim, and Nelson. “Parcels which can be expedited in delivery by the utilisation of air tra.risit on) any part of these routes wMI be accepted from any point in the Dominion, The new services will commence) onj.Alay 25.”
