CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

MONTHLY MEETING. At tho monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce held yesterday afternoon in the Borough Council Chambers Mr. It. W. J. Edvards presided and there were present Messrs. J. Clirisp, H. H. DeCosty, V. E. Sanders, I. J. Quigley. Iv. W. Bull, M. J. White, .J. 0. Musgrave, L. Miles, F. Tolerton, T. Corson, C. T. Natusch, T. G. Lawless, L. T. Burnarc!, H. F. Forster, T. E. Toneyeliffe and W. Hamilton Irvine ( non. secretary). Tho Commissioner of State Forests wrote acknowledging receipt of a request that afforestation projects' should bo undertaken in the East' Coast districts, and stating that lie was conferring with the Director of Forestry on the subject.—The letter was received.

A circular letter, dated April IS, was read in which the chamber was invited to assist in the formation of; a Carnival Club at the meeting which' was held on May 4.—Air. Chrisp stated that another general meeting -of; the Carnival Club, now known as lifeThirty Thousand Club, will be heldshortly and the Chamber would be' invited to have two representatives there.—-The letter was received.

The annual meeting of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire will be held in London on June 24, stated a circular for the Associated Chambers of Commerce. .If any members were likely to be in London at“the time and desired to be' credited as official representatives of the N.Z. Chamber they were asked to notify the secretary of the Associated Chambers. —The letter was received. In connection with membership, campaigns the Associated Chambers forwarded suggestions from the executive. asking the local chamber if assistance was needed to help to increase its membership. A table was also enclosed giving the relative position of chambers as regards membership in proportion to local population at the bust, census, and indicating the potentialities for increased chamber membership.—The letter was received. The 'Sec ctary of the AssociatedChambers of Commerce wrote staking /that advice has been received from the Minister of Internal Aft airs that- it is the intention of tho Government to review the whole question/ of rating as .soon, as L is possible to do so.
