COCHET IN GISBORNE. TO-DAY’S GAMES. To-day should ho a red-letter day for Gisborne tennis, the occasion being the first appearance here of a world-renowned player, Henri Cochet, French tennis ace and former world champion. Cochet is accompanied by A. Willard, J. Willard and L. Baker, Australian players of merit. The quartet will give a series of exhibition matches at the Gisborne Lawn Tennis Club’s courts this afternoon, commencing at 2 o’clock. The Frenchman is reported to be playing right, np’to form, and those present at the exhibition should see some thrilling tennis. A temporary stand has been erected for the convenience of patrons. COCHET DELIGHTS MASTERTON CROWD. <Press > MASTERTON, March fi. Henri C'oehet and three Australian professionals delighted a large crowd to-day with exhibition matches, Cochet took a while to settle down against .1. Willard and lost the..first set, 4 —6, hut then swept his opponent off the court, giving a superb display. Cochet won the next two sets 6—2, 6—l. A. Willard defeated Baker 7—9, 6_3, 6—2 in a hard fought contest. Jn a sparkling doubles match Cochet and J. Willard heat A. Willard and Baker 6—3, 6—4.
