WATERS RECEDING
THAMES VALLEY FLOODS
WORST BELIEVED PAST. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Jan. 1. There are good prospects of a relatively dry week-end throughout Britain, which -should allow the floods to subside. Waters further receded in the upper readies of the Thames yesterday and it is believed that the flooding of the river generally reached the peak last night, and that a general abatement may now be looked for. Below Windsor the floods spread yesterday, and the greater part of the private grounds of Windsor Castle adjoining the river were under water last night. St. Peter’s Church in Old Windsor was flooded and tomorrow’s services are being held in a mission chapel nearby. Many roads of the Lower Thames Valley were still under water this morning.
