A NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY. On New Year’s Eve Miss Pose Telford entertained n number of friends in a very delightful manner at her home at To Knrakn. Banning to inspiriting music, supplied by Miss Puru, was enjoyed in both the drawingroom and diningroom, which were most artistically decorated with great howls of hydrangeas and gladioli intermingled with richly tinted copper beech foliage. The entrance porch was gay with Chinese lanterns and brightly-huod cushions, the decorative note being repeated in the verandah and adjoining.marquee.

A delectable supper was served informally and the fun reached its height at midnight when balloons of every hue were distributed. Mr and Mrs Telford welcomed their daughter’s guests, the latter wearing a graceful frock of navy blue and white spotted chiffon. Miss Telford was extremely smart in a frock of black tulle with gold trimmings. Her sisters, Mesdames. V. Catilfon and C. Graham. Waimata Yallev, were froeked in white silk marocain and blank and green floral Liberty crepe respectively.

CITY BAND DANCE Thronged to overflowing with .1 merry crowd (of revellers the City Hall presented an animated scene on Now Year’s Eve when the W-E.C.M.R. (City) Band held a most .successful dance for the benefit of its funds. The holiday spirit was very inncli in evidence, and the distribution of quaint favours and balloons of every hue considerably enhanced the prevailing gaiety. The floor was capably supervised by Mr. McDonald, and Mrs. Mensdes’ Orchestra was in splendid form, tho musicians responding most generously to tho repeated demands for encores. Delightful extras were contributed by Miss G. "Wilson and Messrs Barker and Vagg during the supper interlude.

On tho stroke of midnight the dancers formed three huge circles and all joined in staging “Anld Lang Syne” most lustily. Supper was served under the direction of a ladies’ committee comprising Mesdames A. Wood, Kermode. .T. Wood, Kobinson, Bowman, Clare, Sullivan; Misses Vagg, Reilly, Shorter, Porston (3), McDonald and Dusky.

The table decorations were artistically carried out with crystal vases of shaded hydrangeas, miniature balloons lending a colourful -note to; the artistic whole.

A SPORTS DANCE Everything that makes for success atfonded the bright and cheery dance organised by the Ormond Sports Club in the local ball on Thursday night as a fitting finale to the annual sports gathering. The dancers were in festive mood and the programme of modern and old-time numbers went with a swing from beginning to end to inspiriting music supplied by Mrs. Tmospson’s Orchestra, much-enjoyed extras being contributed by several of the guestsSupper was served formally, seasonable blooms being used effectively in the decoration of the tables. Adequate preparations had been made for the occasion, and much of the credit for ihe success achieved was undoubtedly due to the efforts of the secretary, Mr. A. Dods, who had the assistance of an energetic committee.
