SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS- ■ ■ (Presß Association!. WELLINGTON, -’-April 25. Thursday’s functions in the celebration of St. Patrick’s College silver jubilee were devoted to the memory elf ex-students killed during the war. Solemn Requiem Mass, was celebrated at St. Mary of the Angels church in the morning. Present scholars from both the Wellington and the Silverstroam colleges, and about 500 old boys were present. Archbishop O’Shea- and every priest associated in the celebration of the Mass were ex-students. At the conclusion, a parade marched to the war memorial in Bowen street,‘ where a wreath of bay leaves was deposited within the shrine On Wednesday evening, within the floodlit walls of St.- Patrick’s College, a jubilee reception was held. Some hundreds of old hoys and their friends attended. Speeches were made by -Archbishop O’Shea and Fathers Cullen and Hurley. Mr B. McCarthy, president of the Old Boys’ Association, the Hon. S. G. Smith, and Mr H-islop, Mayor of Wellington, who received a portrait off the late Archbishop Redwood as acting-chairman of the Trustees of the National Memorial Art Gallery. Archbishop O’Shea announced that the Pope had conferred the dignity of knighthood of the Order o|f St. Gregory .the \Great upon Mr McCarthy.

Among the congratulatory messages was one from Cardinal Funia-soni-Riondi, cardinal prefect of propaganda at Rome and another from Father R.ieu, superior general of the Society of Mary, Rome
