MAJESTIC THEATRE
“CHAINED” AND “BEST OF ENEMIES” “Chained” which opened a- season at the Majestic Theatre on Saturday, iis a very entertaining film, with plenty of romance and the dramatic passages lightened by interludes of humour with Clark Cable and Joan Crawford in the leading roles. Seeing these two playing good parts is becoming a habit, and again they do excellent work. Those who have seen Gable in “It Happened One Night” (now at tile Opera House) will be glad to know that he brings the same nonchel'ance into this picture Scenes where the drama might he a little too tense and realistic are handled by him in such a way that their possible gloom is dispelled.-Re-straint is the keynote of his performance. As Diana Laveriy, Joan Crawford also gives an admirable per formance.'- A young girl, carried away by the sympathy and understanding of her middle-aged employer agrees to spend her life with him Before making that final decision, however, she goes for a trip and meets Mike Bradey and realises the love which springs up between them She is “chained” by her word and returns to the man she first knew. Ultimately happiness .for the three people concerned is cleverly worked out. 1 The second feature “Best of Enemies” featuring Marian Nixon and Frank M-organ, also provides excellent entertainment, while there is besides a further instalment of the “Pirate Treasure” serial.
