The recent hot weather was effective in giving beer drinkers a good excuse for being thirsty, *to judge hy a. remark made during the hearing of the brewers and maltsters’ dispute in Christchurch. “This has definitely been a beer-drinking summer,” declared Mr. A. S. Duncan, the manager of a- large Christchurch brewery, who was one of the employers’ assessors. “We have not seen one like this for 36 years,” he added, and intimated that he would like to see another.
