Val Watch was soon in front and had a good lead at the second fence, .which she hit and dislodged her, rider, R. E. Thomson. Verden led past the stands from Tudor, Maunga King, Wee Pat, Billy Boy and Master Musk, Silver Wattle falling at the fence just before going out of the straight. The Sun baulked at the next. Mnunga King was in charge along the back, but Tudor and Yerden soon ran past him, the pair lending into the straight from Mnunga King and Wee Pat. Tudor fell at the last fence and Verden went on to win bv two and a-half lengths from Wee Pat, who beat Master. Musk by half a- head. Maunga Kjng and Billy-Boy were. next.. - : RECORD TIME IN BIG HANDICAP. Sporting Blood, Sinking Fund, Delrain and*Tybalt .were not paraded for the Easter Handicap and, in a good betting race,'.Red Manfred was made a. much better favourite than Rulanut, while Gay Seton was next fancied. When the field settled down, Star Artist, Gay Seton and Gipsy Moth, were in front from Diatoinous, British .Columbia, Greek Gold, Mother Superior, Rulanut, Rereatu, and Impasto, while Rod Manfred was Well back.. Star Artist and Gipsy Moth were still in charge across the top and into the straight from Diatomous, Coronis, Gay Seton, British Columbia, Scotland, Red Manfred and Caliente. Coronis then ran through and wa"s'clear half way down, but Red Manfred came fast on the outside and beat her by a head with Gay Seton a length away. Caliente, Diatomous, Qay Broney; Mother Superior, Rereatu, Rulanut, Kelly, Star Artist and Imamint followed. The time 1.36 3-5 was a raefe record. They cut out the .first hall' mile in 47sec. and the .first five furlongs in 59 l'-ssec. Diatomous, Star Artist and Gipsy Moth should run well in the sprint to-day while Bed Manfred should also again go well ip the Nolan Handicap. SURPRISE IN STAKES.

The Champagne Stakes attracted a field of six and respited in a surprise, the Te Rapa trained Du Barry winning. Gay' Shiek and Haute Monde had most friends and, when the harr rier lifted, Fairfax whipped round and took no part in the race. Galilee was first out and led across The top from II Duce, Gay Shiek, Haute’ Monde aud Du Barry. Dn Barry improved her position at. the turn and went on to win by a- length and aquarter from Haute Monde, who beat Galilee by a nook. Gay Shiek was fourth. THESPIS NEVER. HEADED. Clan Ronald, who was always second to him by four lengths, with London two lengths away and Ruby Meteor, who was third for most of the way, next. The last-named knocked a fence at the back the last time and settled her chances, PLATO SCORES EASILY. Persian Lady. Valise and Mungawowliia were withdrawn from the Onslow Stakes. The bracket (Velocipede and Triune) was favorite, with Flood Tide and Plato next best backed. Brilliant Aero led across the ton from Triune, Happy Landing, Plato, Fleetwind and Tai Yang. Brilliant Acre was still in charge at the home turn from Triune, Teak, King Flight, Fleetwind and Plato. The last-named did best in the run home to win by o. length and a-half from Fleetwind, who beat Happy Landing by half a length. Velocipede, Teak and Triune were next. OUTSIDER’S WIN. The programme concluded with the Eden Handicap, Wcrohia being the chief fancy while the bracket (Nun Nicer and Expectancy) and Trav Bit were next best supported, while Royal Secret and King Roy were at double figures.for a win.
