Perry (the world's champion tennis player) prior to big departure for England aboard tlie Bcicngaria in. an interview with a. New York Times reportgi declared that he expected to participate in important tournaments in England during the coming season starting with the EoUriiembuth hard court championship on April 29. “This” he said', “i s Jubilee year and I shall do wluit I c.-in to win the Davis Cap for England for another year.” He intimated that the current season would ho his last active year a s a player and that be would probably accept a motion picture contract next year. He praised tbe development of the young Australian players, adding that in his opinion, Australia and' America had the best tennis outlook. Tn another interview, Perry Raid;— “I am entirely at the disposal of the British Lawn Tennis Associrltion. Of course, they may say, ‘We don’t want you,’ but, until they do I am going to remain amateur. As to my engagement to Afar? Lawn That is off. Concerning a movie offer and professionalism which might have meant 109,000 dollars to him, Ferry said;— “Actually I had almost signed the picture contract. All I had to do was to put my name on the dotted line and collect. But I coulct not do it. 1 don’t want to be a professional. T know that, if I turned professional there would be no question of the Davis Cup- going from England. We waited' too long to get it to give it up So Ronn. I think it is ray duty ns an Englishman to help defend it again and, besides, this is the King’s .Tnbilco Year.”
