MATAKAOA HIGHWAYS
LOADING RESTRICTIONS For some time past, the principal main highways in the counties adjoining Matakaoa have been classified in claiisi HI. and in to-day’s paper notice that certain main highways in this county have now been brought under a similar classification The portions of main highway •concerned are the GiSborne-Opotiki via Coast main highway from tlio junction with the. Hick’s Bay wharf highway westwards and also that portion east of the northern boundary of the Opotiki County, the whole (if the Hick’s Bay wharf highway, and tho whole of the Taurangakautuku Valley highway. The maximum permissible gross loading on these highways is now 64 tons for ordinary .four-wheeled vehcles and 10 tons in the case of multiaxled vehicles of an approved type, and for this purpose gross load may he defined as the weight off .the vehicle plus the weight of tho load which, it Is carrying. Arrangements are being made for the early erection of signs on this highway indicating the new classification and persons who exceed these loading limits' will render themselves liable to prosecution.
