BANK THIEF DRIVEN OFF.

The police report that air attempt was 'made yesterday ’by an armed man to hold up the branch of the Commonwealth Bank at Ultimo. He ftlle'gcdiy presented a revolver at the manager -and /-teller and demanded several bundles of notes, but the bank officials refused. The manager reached for his own revolver, whereupon the would-be'thief rushed off.-A shot was fired at him without effect.
