CRITICISM HELD TO BE UNWARRANTED. {Press Association). WELLINGTON, April 17. A general feeling that a great deal of the. criticism of Rongotai *»s an airport Avas unAvarrnnted Ava s shown by mefubers of the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce at a meeting last night. It Avals stated that the Improvement of tho aerodrome would provide useful Avork for the unemployed! during the Avinter,. and a 'resolution was carried empcweriiig the airport committee of the chamber to discuS s with the Mayor the immediate expansion and! development of Rongotai, and the creation of an alternative air port.
SUITABILITY OF LANDING GROUND, COUNCIL TO INQUIRE. (Press Association). WELLINGTON, April 17 Tho City Council last night decided to institute an immediate and full inquiry into the question of the devo lopment of the Rongotai airport to fit it qjs a landing ground for all types of machines. An interesting feature of tho investigation is that by moans of a scale and contour model, wind condi tioms Avill he examined in mi nature and. from their study it will be possible to decide what area should he reclaimed on the seafront to improve the runways and Avliat extent of soil removal will he necessary. The Mayor, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, stated that there was every likeli hood of the council obtaining very favora/ble subsidy terms from the GoA’ernment. The scheme, as broadly suggested, was expected to cost up to £60,000. It Avals suggested by one councillor that the aerodrome should' he removed’ from the council’s control and he administered by an air board.
