“THE WIND AND THE RAIN.”

TO-NIGHT AND TO-MORROW NIGHT.

“TEN MINUTE ALIBI” TO-.Uoimo W AFTER NOON

This evening, beginning at 8 o’clock at the Opera House and tomorrow night the .). C. Williamson Ltd. Company will present the brilliantly clever and very entertaining romantic comedy. “The Wind and the Rain,” which was written by the young Gisborne playwright, Dr. Merton Hodge. To-morrow afternoon the company will appear in the dramatic sensation “Ten Minute Alibi,’’ of which only one performance will be given in Gisborne.. The J. C. Williamson Ltd. company which presents “The Wind and the Rain” and “Ten Minute Alibi” has been acclaimed one of the best that has ever toured New Zealand. “The Wind and the Rain” is one of those subtle little slices of life which causes one to hesitate about telling the story for fear that it may mar the pleasure that it cannot fail to fiive to its audiences. One of the most dql'.ghtl'ul interludes in the play is where the students await the results of the examinations; another is the ingenious touch at the end where the new students “fresh from the nursery,” are served with the old “hot pot” which Mrs. McFie (the landlady) provides for all new students on their first evening in her establishment. No one contributes more to the success of both plays than the brililant young London leading- man, George Thirwell. Jocelyn Howarth, the heroine in the screen version of “The Squatter s Daughter” has scored outstanding triumphs in both “The Mind and the Rain” and “Ten Minute Alibi.” Arundel Nixon is a- talented young English actor, and Frank Bradley is one of the finest character actors on the English-speaking stage to-day. Haloid B. Meade is one of England’s best known dramatic actors, and R. L. Athol wood is a son of the late J. B. Athol-wood. Tommy Jay scored an outstanding triumph in Sydney in both “The Wind and the Rain” and “Ten Minute Alibi.” The company also includes Gwen Munro, Richard Fair. Nan Taylor. Ron Roberts, Janet Johnson and other notable artists. The scenery and lighting effects are outstanding features ol both productions. Box plans are at Tnttorsnll and Bavly’s.
