FOUR SONS KILLED BY G UNSHOT WOUNDS. FAMILY'S TRAGIC HISTORY. TAMORA (N.S.W.), March 30 Victor Smith, aged 3S 1 years, tailor, who was found fatally wounded today, was tho fourth sou of Mrs Thomas Smith, of Temora, to meet his death by gunshot wounds. Mrs Smith has survived .all her sons. One son, Norman Smith, of West Wyalong, the winner of the Centenary pigeon shoot, was killed in a shooting accident in January. Victor Smith, who was horn at Horsham (Vie.), is survived by a widow and two young children. He was a returned soldier. As a prisoner of war in Germany be -suffered great privations and contracted an affection of the head which caused him acute pain. Smith went to the shop of Mr Morrison, a secondhand dealer, in Loftus street, and bought a gun. He stood outside the shop talking to Mr Morrison, apparently quite rationally. When Air Morrison looked away he heard a shot and saw Smith fall. Smith evidently had taken bullets with him to the shop. He died on the way to hospital. WITH ROBE AROUND NECK. MAN JUMPS FROM TREE. SAVED BY POLICE STRATEGY. TUMUT (N.S.W.), March 30. Under remand for. seven days for medical observation, Thomas Eggelton, aged 28 years, of West Bowering was being escorted from the court house to the lock-up when he broke away an ddisappeared. Later he visited the home of his parents for clothing and food. He was asked to- give himself up to the police, but lie refused. Hurrying away with a plough rein the man climbed a tree on the edge of a bank. He fastened one enG of the rein to ,a limb of the tree, and making a noose placed it around his neck, and remarked to his brother who had .followed him, that if anyone approached him ho would hang himself. Later three constables arrived. Eggleton still had the noose around his neck, and he said, “If you come near me I will jump.” Tho police stationed a hoy with a sharp knife at the foot of the tree, and when Efegelton finally jumped the rein was slashed, and he landed in the arms of two constables unhurt.Later the man was brought before the Court and ordered to he conveyed to a. mental hospital.
