HAMILTON, April 18 A young man' Was killed; and four motorists- iwere injured in a collision which occurred at the corner of Galloway street arid Cambridge road shortly after .3 o’clock this- afternoon between a heavy' motor triick ladrin With drums Bf petrol arid a touring car returning from a funeral at- Hamilton East cemetery. The victims wereKILLED; ‘ . '' ' A young man named Gillies, son of a garage proprietor of that name of Taupo, aged 20 years. ■ INJURED. Patrick Shivnan, severe cuts, ahra- ' sidris and- slibe'k, condition not serious. Edward E. O’Neill', cuts, bruises and severe slpck; condition not serious. John Shivnan, shock and abi-asions John Murphy shock arid abrasions. '' The truck iwhieli was rated at 4A owned by the Gillies motor service! station proprietors, Taupo and was returning south with a. consignment of 2000 gallons of petrol in 1 drums when' the accident occurred'. The car was driven by John Shivnan anj was emerging from Galloway street. The impact occurred on - the crown, of the road l where the two . vehicles met with terrific force. The car was struefi squarely on the left hand side and thrown high ? nto the air, somersaulting several times before coining to rest on' its wheels on a strip of lawn 20yds from the point of impact. In the motor truck a. young man was the sole occupant. It mounted the footpath arid turned over. The driver was pinned in the cab and stiffoi-bd extensive Head injuries and died before admission to the Waikato Hospital. The four occupants of the car hail a remarkable escape from serious injury. The. truck was not severely dariiagod but tlie car was a. total loss. The occupants of the motor car are reported to be in a satisfactory o°n- : ditifln.
