PROGRESS ASSOCIATION (Special to the Times.) Iu the Masonic Hall, Tokomaru Bay, on Monday night, there was a iargo and representative gathering iff local business men and residents The object was the formation, of an organised body of residents to .further the interests of tiie Bay in general. Mr J. Todd was in the chair, and it was decided to form a Progress Association, all present to ho constituted original members. An executive committee, comprising comprising Messrs J. Todd, W. Oates. F. Nathan -S. Doig, H. Bignell. F. E. Porter, and P. To Wai was elected. Several items of interest, such as beautifying the Bay, Native lease problems-.; tar-sealing, motor camps, and water supply came up for discussion arid sub-committees were set up to go into the matter. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr F. Nathan, who had convened the meeting. GARDENING CIRCLE At the Tokomaru Bay Gardening Circle’s annual meeting Mrs Holah was re-elected president, and Mrs Mrs Newlands secretary. TropUies for the highest aggregate points .ro? the year were awarded to Mrs J. L. Grant (flowers), and Mrs M. L. Holah (vegetables). Mr TV. B. Morris, of Gisborne, gave a very interesting lecture on the cultivation of dahlias. POLITICAL MEETING On Wednesday night, Mr Hultqtiist, Labor candidate, who intends opposing Mr Iv. S. Williams, M.P., at tbs next election, spoke to a fairly large gathering of Tokomaru residents, Mr Stafford occupying the chair.
