WHANG AHA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The second birthday of the \Vhangar a Wofmen’s Institute was celebrated in a befitting manner last iWcek. Proceedings opened with the singing of the institute song-, after which the president, Mrs P. Barker extended a warm welcome to a. number of visitors. Congratulatory telegrams were received from several sister institutes. Duriu-g the afternoon Mi's Barker was presented with a lovely bouquet of mauve and pink asters comprising the institute emblem and colors. An amusing estimating competition was won by Mrs E. Bruce. The monthly competitions, (a) best jar of tomato relish,, and (b) prettiest home-made apron, resulted as follows: (a) Mrs S. Reeves, 1; Mrs Loftier. 2; (b) Mrs Hyland, 1; Mrs Brosnahan l 2. Last year’s prizes for cooking and sowing were presented by the president to the winner, Mrs F. Bruce. The prize for the most consistent competitor was won by Mrs Sat'hcrly. The handsome birthday cuke was nmdo by Mrs S. Reeves, and iced by Mrs Cameron in shades of mauve and pink. GARDENING CIRCLE The monthly meeting of the Gardening Circle of the Ormond Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs Siiowsill, there being a lull attendance of members and several visitors. Tile 'gay and picturesque garden with beautiful dahlias, roses salvias cannas, Easter daises and tho ferneries wer e much admired and were looking their best. The principal business of the afternoon wa& arranging the programme f°r the monthly competitions for the coming year’s activities. One new. member, Mrs T. R. Jones was elected.
