BOROUGH COUNCIL WAGES INCREASED. (Special to tho Times.) OPOTIKI, April .10. At a meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council last night Air J. JMoody, according to. notice given, moved that various increases in the salaries aiidi wages of the indoor and outdoor staff be given. Speaking to the motion, Air Moody said that; .when salaries were reduced, the financial state of the borough was below zero, but now that, the position was. much better,, they .were in a position to increase salaries. .... - The following increases were recom mended; — ■<■ Ranger to £2 10s. per week, (he;to undertake regular traffic inspection). Foreman’s salary raised from £IBO to '£2oo p.a. Town, Clerk from £lB2 to £2OO p.a. It was decided, ail so to restore the 10 per cent' cut on the salary of the wharfinger. STRUCK BY CAPSIZED DRAY NATIVE SEVERELY INJURED (Special,,to the Times.) Suffering from severe internal, injuries, and .probably a fractured spine, Topi Pene was admitted to Opotiki Hospital late this afternoon. Pore was driving a bullock dray from Houpoto to Ataraenui with a load of firewood, and when rounding a. hent.l in the road the, load shifted and cdmmenced to fall off. Pene tried to' jump clear hut the wood in ; slipping capsized the dray on to Pene, hitting him in the back, A hoy who was also on the dray escaped with a cut on. the forehead and a damaged eye.

Assistance , was, procured to relieve the injured man and he was brought" into Opotiki by Air M. Rex, on a lorry, '.suffering seriously from shock on a journey of. 28 miles. The full extent of his ‘injuries is not known at present.
