'at' midday today when the camp was closed down and 120 men were: discharged., Tlie men demanded! ‘ that firewood he cut and placed near their tents, and also complained of tho food. Four men. were discharged for creating trouble, and at a stop-work meeting on- Wednesday. a, secret ballot ’ was taken and it was decided t-o strike until the discharged men were reinstated, This demand .was refused by the Public Works Department, upon instructions from the head office in Wellington. The camp was closed dawn Meantime, the married men are still carrying on. Most of the. strikers' come from Wellington,
