COMMEMORATION IN GISBORNE. BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION'S : SCHEME TREES FOR. UPPER GLADSTONE ROAD. Waiting on the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday evening a deputation of the Gisborne District- Beautifying Association urged that, as part of the King’s Jubilee celebrations residents of the town should [io invited to pant trees in Gladstone road between Roebuck and Lytton roads. Such trees would bo planted,, it was suggested, in sur-h a. position as to avoid any obstruction of power u>r telegraph lines. The members of the deputation were Dr IT. Gon!ding Rice and Mr -f. Blair. Though there were onir 70 houses in the section mentioned, the deputation stated, the petition in support of the proposal had been signed' by 79 ratepayers. Cr. H. H. Re Costa urged that native trees should !>o planted l . It was decided, however, that decision on this point, should 1 he Held over in the meantime The Mayor (Mr John Jackson) staled that the proposal appearerf a very good one. On the motion of Ur. IT. Holmes seconded by Cr D. S. Thompson - iE was decided to acquiesce in the proposal, with the condition that, the variety of the tree proposed' should be submitted to the council committees for approval.

The Prime Minister wrote to .the Council! outlining proposals for the King’s Jußilee and. asking the council’s co-operation.—Tt was decider! to call a pulilie mooting on Tuesday evening next of the various bodies which might bo concerned in the jubilee celebrations and also that the same decorations, as for the visit of the Duke of Gloucester, should be set up (with the exception of the arch in the street.
