BY ONE VOTE MAORI TEAM INVITED TO N.S.W. (U.P.A. by Elec. Tel. Copyright) SYDNEY, April 9. The committee of the Rugby Union by 15 votes to 14, decided to invite a Maori team to visit New South Wales this season. This' decision was made in the face ■of very strong •opposition from the treasurer. Air J. Bleekenridge, who declared that he would not be respoiu sible for the union’s finances at tho end of the season if the Ain oris were invited. Air Brackenridge expressed doubts of the. playing and drawing capabilities of the Alaoris, and said the invitation was a financial risk that was not warranted. In presenting the management committee’s ease for extending the invitation. Air F. Herlihy said there was reason to think that the present Alaori shlo would compare ably with teams that previously had proved most attractive and successful in New South AVnles.
