FIRES
PUBLIC SCHOOL DESTROYED (Pi ess Assocl/vxian BLENHEIM, April 8. No fire-fighting appliances being available, the public school at Springlands, a suburb of Blenheim, was (Completely destroyed hr fire early yesterday morning. Spectators succeeded in salvaging a piano, sewing machine, and a few desks, but otherwise everything was last, including a library, on which over £2OO had been spent, and the school records which date back 41* yearsThe golden jubilee was to be celebrated next year. The infant school, a detached building erected a few years ago, was saved, together with other outbuiidings. The insurances, which are'held by the Wellington Education Board, are net available here. The machinery, including the electric generating plant, was little damaged. The staff, with their appliances, effected a good save. The origin ot the fife is not known, .
