Lord Londonderry opened a huge aeronautical research wind tunnel at the Air Force establishment at Farnborough capable of testing aeroplanes rip to fifty-six foot span in a wind as high as 115 miles per hour created by ‘electric- fans. He stated that, if the result of these experiments on' the behaviour of aircraft reduced an aeroplane’s resistance by only ten per cent, it should save ,the Air Force. £IO,OOO a year in petrol.
