N.S.W. CABINET

POLITICAL SENSATION,

MR. WEAVER POPPED.

SEQUEL TO CRITICISM OF HOSPITALS AND DOCTORS

(U.P.A. by Elec. Tel. Copyright)

(Received Fob. 11, <11.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 11

A political sensation occurred today when the New South Wales .Cabinet, at a' special meeting, decided to re-construct the Ministry, by omitting Mr. R. W. Weaver, Minister for Works and Health, who -recently had fallen foul of some hospital boards, also the British Medical Association, as a result of his frank speeches and criticism of hospital methodsMr. Weaver, interviewed, said :

“What have I to resign for? I cannot believe the Government is run in the interests of the British Medical. Association. The Government finds no fault with my administration but merely objects to my words, which’ are too blunt and too straightforward, perhaps crude. I admit using the words “dud doctors” and I .admit that “dud” is an ugly word. But aren’t there duds in every walk of life, even dud politicians? So bring in the guillotine.”

Premier Stevens will take the Ministry for works until the election and Mr. Fitzsimons will take the Health portfolio.
