BODYLINE CONTROVERSY REVIVED IN BRITAIN. HYSTERICAL ATTACKS ON AUSTRALIA. U..P.A. by Elec. Tel. Cooynffht. LONDON, Dec. 30. Respite Australia’s decision to bury body-line, certain English newspapers are revelling in the fresh opportunity to attack Australia and Marylebone. Others are antagonistic towards the LnrwoodVoce type of bowling.
Many of the comments are lamentably lop-sided. The critics charge Australia with and sug gest that an Australian sub-commit-tee should pick the English team. They also recomemnd the use of a soft ball.
The' “Dispatch,” under the headings “Abominable treatment of Larwood and Voce,” “Stop this conspiracy, or stop the tests,” says: “Tell Australia that we are going to play cricket in the fresh, clean way we have played it for centuries. We won’t alter our way of playing it just to let Australia win, and we shall play our best players. It is foolish to say that this is a matter of Empire, goodwill. Australia and Britain will always be on terms of brotherhood.”
CfEhe Observer” Isays the (Whole system of secret diplomacy is remote from the spirit of sport. The public hope that they will hear! nothing of the test matches for a long time.
