PROSPEROUS CLUB OF 400 HASTINGS ORPHANS’ ENVY i With the apparent rbjccc of shaming present and past Hastings Orphans into more vigorous action, Mr E. L. Commin, at a, meeting of the Hastings Orphans’ ‘Club—the membership of which declined by 29 to a total of 115 at the end of last season* and which starts off this year with a -credit balance of £2 5s —quoted the following remarkable facts dealing with the Gisborne Savage Olub. For the eleventh year in successon there has been no outstanding subscription.
The club has a membership of 400 at the beginning of last season, and there was a large waiting list of members. It has‘a sum of £6OO on fixed deposit,'rind a sum of £BB on current account. Furniture and effects brought the total value of the club's assets up to £855. In addition, the dub had a relief fund and a “Mother Hubbard pupboard.”’ After reciting these " facts, Air Commin, addressing tho chair, said: “I propose that wo send thorn a iottcr. ” •
