India tea interests are concerned over the New Zealand surtax of .16d. per lb. on Indian tea entering the country whereas there is no surcharge on Ceylon tea. The Government has been urged to suggest ta New Zealand' that it should abolish the surtax and enable Indian tea to compete with Ceylon on equal- terms in the Dominion market. Sir Joseph Bhore, a commerce member, said the matter was receiving consideration in connection with the question, of a trade agreement with New Zealand. The Indian tea industry was apprehensive of the effects “ of the present advantage held by Ceylon, though, last year, New "Zealand imports of Indian tea had largely improved.
