NOTABLE GISBORNE - . ' SUCCESSES, ROTORUA AND WHAKATANE. E. Grant and G. Quinn, two Gisborne athletes, had a very successful time ; at the Rptorua and Wihakatarie meetings over the holidays, securing seven firsts and a tie for second between, them. At Rotorpa Quinn, who was virtual scratch - man in all his races, won the. 220yds off Byds., while he tied for second place, off 3yds in the 100yds. R. Gavjn (syds.) of Auckland University College, won. the latter event and Roberts of Auckland Grammar, shared second honors with the Gisborne entrant. Proceeding to Whakatane Quinn won the 100yds off 2jyds and t-he 440yds off 10yds. Grant, competing at Rotorua, won the 120yds hurdles from a handicap of 12yds behind scratch, accounted for the 440yds off 30yds in 50sec. and annexed the long jump with an actual leap* of 19ft. lin., plus a handicap of 3ft. At Wiha-katane Grant repeated his success in the long jump, covering 19ft 7in.
