“Britain was a mighty place in that it was the centre of the world’s activities,” said Air Jordan, Labour Af.P. for Alantiknn, in an address to the Palmerston North Rotary Club, “and one could glean an endless array of impressions. England in post-war times had been a nation in mourning, financially ruined, involved in the same sweep of disaster that had involved Europe. Rut fortunately her people were determined to restore their country to a state of (prosperity, and their energy and courage had gone a long way towards achieving that end.”
