TOKOMARU GAItDEN IN G CIRCLE (Special to the Times) The monthly meeting of the Toko mant Bay Gardening Circle took place last Friday afternoon at the residence of Mrs .Riddell. There was a large attendance and a reading bv Mrs Beattie on the cultivation ot seeds was heard with great interest. The competitions brought lorth many entries- In the posy classes, the winner was Mrs Hoi ah with .Mrs J. L: Grant second, while in the pot-pliant section, Mrs Holah was ag ain the winner, Mrs Newla-nds being second. Airs Riddell’s garden was a source of delight to members while a delicious afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames W. Oates, Niven an-di Riddell. Among those present were: Mesdames Grant, Caldwell, G. Oates, Newlands. McKnight, Cocker. N T ug- . ent, W. Oates, Holali, Rowell. Beattie. Sparks. Niven, Steed, Walker, O’Callaghan, Short, Riddell- Findlay, and Miss Johnston. NATIVE MEETING HOUSE Great progress is being made by the builders of the new -Maori meeting house. It has now reach' d the stage when the more intricate carvings are being done. A number of Maoris from the Rotorua School of Carving are at present engaged on the task, while the women at the local pas are making beautiful mats for interior decorating. The building is an acquisition to i'le Bay. and. when it is opened, will be the scone of much gaiety and enjoyment
