A CABARET. As a fitting finale to a very festive week, n successful cabaret was lc f at Le Grande Cafe on Saturday night. .. The pretty room, with its Biml»e decorations, formed a delightful setting for the dancers, and both ,e (low. and the music were all that could be desired. A very delightful tea party was given by Airs. R, D. Dyinock, at her home at Te Karaka, on Friday afternoon in honour of Afiss Alary Scott, to-day's bride. The drawingroom looked very invitino. with its artistic decorations of roses and Iceland poppies, and, in t h e diningroom, where tea was served, lovely spring blooms were used wh u charming effect in the decoration of the table. During the afternoon each guest autographed her favourite recipe in a handsomely-bound book, the gift of the hostess, which was later presented to the bride-to-be. Good-luck mottoes, contributed by the guests, formed u Hovel and very divertimr calligraphic competition, the competitors being requited to identify the writing. Airs. J. G. Appleton emerged the winner and was rewarded with a charming gift. Tennis was also entered into" with enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed by both players and spectators. The hostess was wearing a smart frock of navy bine patterned floral crepe cut on simple lines. Afiss Dyinock was attractive in a two-piece suit of royal blue and white tricolette.

The guest of honour wore a pretty frock of sea green printed crepe be chine and a straw lmt to match. Miss R. Scott was in a becoming frock of daffodil yellow crinkly crepe and matching hat. AN AFTERNOON TEA. On Friday afternoon, Airs. Richard Barker entertained a number of friends in a very delightful liiamm l ' at her home in Russell street. The weather was u]| that Could he desired, and the guests spent a very happy time wandering in the picturesque garden enjoying its many beauties. Indoors, lire rooms were gay with a wealth of lovely flowers artistically arranged. Great bowls of arum lilies and. Iceland poppies were chosen for the adornment of the lounge, while very beautiful roses, alluringly combined with exeias, shed their fragrance in tho drawingroom. Tea was served in the diningroom, slender silver vases of roses adorning the table. The hostess was "earing an elegant frock of fawn Hat erere patterned in a small conventional design, finished with a swathed belt and a black straw hat with fawn anct black velvet trimmings. 'Miss P. Barker was smart in a frock of floral crepe de chine in red. gfreen and black toniiigs. Afiss V. Barker’s attractive frock ol blue Liberty lawn was ornamented with white organdie. TENNIS. lennis enthusiasts were well represented. at the official opening oi‘ the le Hapara Lawn Tenuis and Croquet Club on Saturday afternoon. The president, 2i_r. W. M. Jenkins, in declaring the courts open, extended a very warm welcome to members and visitors, and, in a very happy manner, ' congratulated the club on its pi ogress and the excellent condition of the courts.
