SUMMARY AND FORECAST (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17 A moderate anti-cyclone covers the Tasman, but a rather deep depression is crossing southern New Zealand "Winds North'-westerlies prevailing in parts of the eastern districts; elsewhere west to southwest, moderate to strong generally, and gale force at times from Cook Strait southwards, Seas. —Rough south of Cape Elgin ont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea. —Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds; seas rough in southern portion; elsewhere moderate. Weather. —Changeable in districts with a westerly aspect and on parts of the East Coast from Banks Peninsula southwards with scattered showers ; elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cool; some frosts inland in the South Island.
