DRAKE’S DRUM
DEATH OF LORD SEATON. PLYMOUTH, August 19. Lord Seaton, of Bucldand Abbey, Yclverton, Devon, has died after an illness lasting a fortnight, aged 79. He was the possessor of Drake’s drum, which is supposed by legend t° beat in ghostly' fashion whenever Britain is in danger. Many other relics of Sir Francis Drake have been banded down as heirlooms by the family, including a model of the Golden Hind, in which Drake sailed round the world. Lord Seaton’s grandfather, the first holder of the title, was FieldMarshal Sir John Colborne, who fought at Waterloo. For his services Parliament granted him a pension of £2OOO, with remainder to his two immediate successors.
