Mrs. C. Tiotjon, who has bf'en spending a very enjoyable holiday at Auckland, has returned to Gisborne, and is again in residence at Waimarie. ,
At the mooting of the eo-uiiniitee of tho Poverty Bay A. and P. Association on Saturday, the president, Mr. H. G. -Smith, referred to the loss by death of four valuable members of the association —Messrs. A. L. Barrington, G. W. Humphreys, TV. GMnclaurin and F. Read—and condolence with the relatives whs expressed in the customary manner.
Messrs. A. T). McLeod. ft. X. Jones and G. R-. Reed, members oi the Native Rates Commission, met local body representatives at Tokomam Bay yesterday and to-day arc expected to visit various Maori ttP-t-Uements. Later in tho week, the TVaiapu and Matakaoa County Councils wiil moot the commission, and the work in the Coast districts is expected to be completed by Saturday.
Mr. ,T. C. Dow, of the Magistrade’s Court at Gisborne, has received notice of his transfer to the Wellington office and leaves bn June 5, to fake over his new duties. His departure- will .he a slovero loss to this district-, especially, in cricket and Rugby circles. For years past, he lias boon a leading member °f the Poverty Bay'" cricket representatives, and has also taken an active pait in. the management of the game, as a member of the Association executio and also hon. sec. of the Old Boys’ Cricket Club. Mr. Dorn; has also performed with distinction on the Rugby bold, playing with the. H. 5.0.8. senior team and onco figuring in a - representative game.' He will ho replaced at GiSb.orno hv Mr. J. W. Reed, of tho Napier office, iyho will arrive- hero oii Juno Z Mr . Reed is a member of tho Napier X 1.5.0.8. Cricket Club, and of the M. 8.0.8.
