To-day brings Lu a. conclusion a most successful season oi ‘‘On Our Selection,” every session showing to crowded audiences. Few, indeed, there arc who have not read Steele Rudd’s fascinating, humorous stories of life in the outbacks of Australia, and fewer who have not been completely captivated by the exceedingly liveable characters they present. This being so, it is easy to see why
“On Our Selection" has become a firm favorite with picture-goers, since all the parts are played by Australians, who. in make-up and acting are entirely faithful to the book. •‘Dad - ’ is portrayed by Hurt Bailey, who bay played the role for many years on the stage, arid who gives a thoroughly enjoyable performance as the rugged, fearless old farmer whose indomitable courage is never dimmed even under the worst, storms of adversity. The other characters are also remarkably true to life. There is a line supporting progriai.no “A Symphony in Steel” features the Sydney Harbour Bridge close-up and distant views. providing a- splendid conception of its nagpitudo and bfeauty, Mr. Frank Hurley’s runn' ig commentary, adding greatly -to the enjoyment of the film. Ginosoiuul and Fox Australian newsreels and 'a delightful Mickey Mouse cartoon complete an excellent programme. To-morrow '‘The Penguin Pool' Murder” will be presented, starring Edna May Oliver and James Qlooson. This is "a cleverly conceived mystery drama and a laugh-packed comedy all in one.
