CHINESE ATTACK JAPANESE QUARTER

An outburst of firing on the Japanese quarter followed an attempt by Chinese plain clothes men to secure control. The attackers fled after two hours’ stubborn fighting. Japanese p.anes circled the city during the morning, but dropped no bombs, though fired on bv the defenders.

Following an attempt to assassinate Aeherol Huangfu at Tictsin station, a bomb explosion wrecked part of the building, killed, two persons outright and injured five others. The outrage occurred just as the train had arrived from Peking. The p!a:form was crowded with alighting passengers, and guards were removing the luggage. Fire started and swept through
the building. The perpetrators escaped.
A little later shooting began in the native Pity. Groups of plain eloihes men, formerly followers or -Sh’.syuslian, former Kuom nnchun genera', tried'to gain contro, oi the city, but they were easily beacon by tne- police and fled in disorder, throwing away their pistols.

The League of Nations Council resolved ta- create a commission to investigate the Bolivia-Paraguav dispute locally, and has requested that hostilities cease immediately. The Paraguayan representatives accept t-lic resolution and indicated that the declaration of tear would be withdrawn. The Bolivian representatives arc replying in a few days.
