FIRE IN MENTAL HOSPITAL FOUGHT BY' NURSE,4*I N RAIN

A lire at Rydalmer’s Mental Hospital iwas fought by nurses in heavy rain, while others moved 210 patients from the refractory ward to another portion of the building. There were no casualties, but the dining-hall was destroyed.

RAILWAYS NEED ATTENTION

The 31inister of Railways state* that £500,000 is required to pub the railways in safe running order. Thirtysix locomotives are side-tracked owing to lack of repairs, and SCO vans and waggons are similarly laid aside. The Minister says that the neglect arose, despite official appeals for attention, because the previous Government desired to make a good financial showing. The Treasury is now empty and stormy appeals are being made by the unemployed for relief wpork
