i Following a decision to remove the Queen Victoria statue from the Fail Eireanu,- a Cosgraveitc, Mr Grattan Esmond©,' arrived bareheaded and deposited at the foot of the sratue a wreath made of cabbages, cauliflowers leeks, and rhnbard, solemnly saluted them, and then entered the Data ' - Officials. later ’ removbip the wreath, on which was the inscription: Hail and) Farewell.” . ~ .It is understood that Mr Esmonde s motive was to register contempt o the ’De Valera party’s decision to re i move- the statue and replace it with the statue of an'lrish patriot , . It may be recalled that Mr v Esinohde was expelled from Australia m 1921. '
