Dr. Marian retained Calvinia by. a substantial majority, likewise Dr. Stecnkemp Namazualand. Colonel Wilkins was the only independent returned. He captured a Transval rural seat. Six rural returns are still to come and probably all will provide Nationalist Coalitionists. The new House will consist of 131 Coalitionists, two Roosites, two Labontes, two Natal revolutionists • and five Independents, all mild Coalitionists. It is understood the mines will contribute an extra £7,000,000 from the gold premium to the general revenue, enabling the Budget to be balanced.
