Seventy-efghu candidates were returned unopposed, and 72 scats are being contested. Nineteen election results had been declared by midnight. Dr. Reitz, a supporter of Mr Rods and a brother of the Minister of Lands, defeated Mr Sampson. ex-Min--ister of Posts. Wynbcrg, a suburb of Capetown, •supplied a surprise by returning Sir Joseph Robinson, a son of the deceas-ed-mining magnate, nvho is not, attached to any party. Mr Madeley retained Bcnoni, but Mr MucArtliuv captured Umbilo for Labor. Grevville returned Mr Darbysbiie, the first Home Rule member.
