A daughter of the late Mr Edward Hall, of tho engineering firm of J. and E. Hall. Darttord, Kent, the late Mrs. Ivirkcaldie’s mother before her marriage was Miss Elizabeth'’Stains, sister of Mr. Robert Stains. Mrs, Kirkcaldie came out to New Zealand in 1868 to visit- her uncle, Mr. Robert Stains, and in 1870 married Mr. John Kirkcaldie. M-is. She was a member of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, and occupied at different times the positions of president and treasurer.
