Mrs. Mary Ann Kirkcaldie, widow of the late Mr. John Kirkcaldie, beau of the firm of Kirkcaldie and Stains, passed away at her residence, 2 Upland road, on Friday last, at the age of S 4 years. A daughter of the late Mr Edward Hall, of tho engineering firm of J. and E. Hall. Darttord, Kent, the late Mrs. Ivirkcaldie’s mother before her marriage was Miss Elizabeth'’Stains, sister of Mr. Robert Stains. Mrs, Kirkcaldie came out to New Zealand in 1868 to visit- her uncle, Mr. Robert Stains, and in 1870 married Mr. John Kirkcaldie. M-is. Kirkcaldie was of a most charitable disposition, and devotee: much °- * lll time to making garments for P OO,I children, which she sent to orphanages and societies. She was a member of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, and occupied at different times the positions of president and treasurer. She also took a keen interest in the Plunket Society, to which .slto and her family were. generous contributors.
