His Honour stated that lie was pleased to be able to congratulate the district that there was no case involving dishonesty to be considered. The cases to come before them, curiously enough, were all of assault, involving seven persons. Two were of a sexual nature and should not give much trouble. Another was a case In which a youth was charged with assaulting an old woman, aged 70; he went to her place, asked for a drink of water and, later, when the police were sent for, he "'as alleged to have assaulted her. The only ease likely to give the grand jury trouble was one in which four men were charged with assaulting another man named Dalrymplc. In all fairness to the accused, it should he pointed out that, simply because they were present at the time of tlie assault. did not necessarily make them parties to the assault. According to one Crown witness, one of the accused, Tvatipa, was.acting the, part oi' peacemaker and His Honor wished to impress on the jury that, where several persons were concerned in the olio, charge, a true bill could be returned against only one or more of them and no bill in respect of the remainder.
