POVERTY BAY’S TEAM The following team has been selected to repaesent Poverty Bay in the Kirk Cup match against Waiapu, to be played at the Oval, ■ Gisborne, on on Monday and Tuesday next; — G. N. Lockett {captain), M. . K. Boon (vice-captain), S. Reeves, E. James, C. Fras'er, J. C. Doav, S. Ward, W. Carson, M. Sharp, D. Wells and E. D. Hosier. Twelfth' man: E. H- Bow. The above team avus approved at the Aveekly meeting yl’ the management committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket 'Association, presided over by Mr H. E. Maude.

The grounds committee reported that the wickets last Saturday played excellently, reflecting great credit on the groundsman, Mr M. Guthrie.

POVERTY BAT UMPIRES APPOINTMENTS FOR WEEK Appointments for the week were made at a meeting of the Poverty Bay Cricket Umpires’ Association held last evening. Mr C. L. Lord presided over the folloAving: Messrs F. J. Mace G. Dunn, A. Hamilton, G. Price, S. Sheldrake, W. J. Toavu, and G, V. Lyuex (hon. sec). Mr R. Halliday Avas admitted as a. member of the senior circuit and Mr S. Sheldrake as a member of the junior circuit.

It Avas resolved to place on record the valuable services rendered by Mr T. Sharp, Avho lias left the district, and the secretary was instructed to Avrite Mr Sharp conveying these sentiments and emphasising that his departure Avas all the more regretted since he Avas a foundation member of the association-

POVERTY BAY OLD-TIMERS INTERESTING MATCH Bused on past performances of the p]avers, probably the finest local team ever seen out in Poverty Bay took the • field last week-end in a match against Victoria. This was a . newlyformed combination, bearing the name Poverty Bay Old-timers. Included in tlifc ranks of the team were such old 'stars as '“Harry” Ellis (Australian XI.) L. McMahon (New Zealand), and It. Gartslioro (regarded as the finest colt who has appeared in local cricket). Old Poverty ■ Bay’ Teps. included W. J. Scholium, T. Atkinson (one of whose record scores appears in Wisden”s), A. Baker, M. Guthrie (who has scored freely at the expense of Australia and other sides visiting this district), T, P. Hogan, W. Tier and H. Hoi shier.

Apart from the actual personnel of the Old-timers’ side, tlm match was extremely interesting and provided bright cricket throughout. Taking first innings Old-timers started none too- well when Hogan twas out tor a brace with the score at 18 only. Baker, and Tier then made a good stand and the was 49 before the latter left. Without addition Baker was also dismissed, lie' having made 38 in free style, hitting half a dozen boundaries. Atkinson followed and hit very freely, notching-four fours iii making 26- Jlc wa’s partnered by GaHshore who played delightful cricket, showing great form for a ■player, who had not .handled a bat for

a long time. This stand added 61 in quick time. Gartshore avus eventually out for 41, including seven fours. Lon McMahon failed to get going, but M. Gutlu-io and H. Ellis soon had the boAvlors Avorried and they rattled on a further 70 while together. Guthrie notched 37 (one six and live fours), Avliilo Ellis collected 47, also hitting five fours. E. C. Fox gave Ellis valuable assistance, scoring 13 in a productWe stand. The innings reaised the excellent score of 236. Nossiter bowled very Avell, for Victoria, securing six for 70, including the hat trick.

Victoria, started off with a ffnc partnership betAvcen Nicholson and Tasker, the total, standing at 109 before a. separation Ava's effected. Nicholson retired Avlien he reached 58 (eight fours) Avhile Tasker made 66 (one ,six and ten fours). Beer strung together 25, Mahoney 10, Dunn 21 not out, and McKay 12, the total at stumps being 229 for nine Avickets. M. Guthrie and W. J.
