N’.Z. CROWNS ANDREWS SECURES MEN'S SINGLES ' LADIES' TITLE TO AfTSS NIGHOLLS (Press Association.y WELLINGTON, Jan. 23. The Now Zealand tennis championships concluded to-day in fine weather before a. very large attendance. E. D. Andrews outplayed C. E. Mail>o.y in the most brilliant game seen for years to win the moil’s ’singles.’ Miss .Dulcie NichoDs won the ladies’ singles title, beating Aliss Marjorie MacFarlane in a long strenuously fought base-line game, in. which the latter was mostly behind and even had the match point against, her early in the second set. It was a worthy final from. both.

Alall'roy and Seay won the men’s doubles,- beating- the Frances in a five .set go of fluctuating fortunes in which all the four, between individual patches of brilliance, sank to mediocrity. Alalfrqy’s quickness at the net, was /the deciding factor . in the fifth set. Seay was the steadiest up to -then. Len France was the outstanding of the losers. The wonderful steady lobbing of Airs R. P. Adams was responsible for her and Airs Dykes 1 ' win in the final of the ladies’ doubles. It made openings for Airs Dykes at the net and also threw one of the opposition out of the game in almost every stroke of each rally. The losers drove and smashed well, but- were forced into mistakes at vital times.

The final of the, mixed doubles between Andrews and AIr s Dykes against Alalfroy and Aliss AlacFarlane was a brilliant encounter. Andrews’ faulty position at half court and Alalfroy's quickness at the net were responsible for the Alalfrov.AlacFarlane victory. Both ladies played excellently, returning the fiercest, serves and quick volleys and smashes with great accuracy. Afiss AlacFarlane scarcely missed anything from the back line.
