RAM FAIR

. ROMNEY OFFERING EXCEEDS DEMAND. PRICES OPEN’ WELL. DECLINE-TOWARDS END. VThe annual .ram fair opened at tjio Matawhe.ro yards yesterday, when flock Romneys were offered and also six stud - Romneys, which, however, did not attract much attention. The highest price was Ogns., but an offer of \lO .gns. for a locally bred ram was not accepted. The offering .of flock-y.-Romneys-totalled -2360, an increase of about 700 on last year’s yardin'g. When a little more than half the entry had been offered it was evident-that tile majority of the buyers had filled' their requirements, and. prices fell to such an extent that one guinea or thereabouts became the general figure, and many good rams were secured at this value. Despite this set-back, however, an outstanding entry of 20 one-shear rams bred bj' M. L. E. Craine, Feilding, a hew vendor at local sales, made Bsgns. Tins . was the second highest price at the fair, and the best average for a total entry. The highest' price was 10 one-shear rams bred by Bremner and Sons, Waverley, -. sold at OJgns., early in the morning. Other good sales were, 10 1-shear, bred by Mr. J. L. Camplin, Feilding, 6gns; 15 one-shear from the same breeder 4Jgns; 10 1-shear on account of A. N. Henson, Feilding, 4f gns; 18 one-shear on account of Shannon Bros., Feilding, 4fgns ; and 6 do., Signs; 5 two-shear from D. R. Daysh, Masterton, 3gns; 5 oneshear from W. Rayner, Masterton, 3Jgns; and 10 one-shear on account of Bremner and Sons, Waverley, Signs. A fair number of pens failed to -make a bid, while a few only realised three-quarters - of., a guinea. The drop in the latter part of the sale was not unexpected owing to the heavy entry and the good competition in the early stages. The entry, however, proved too "big for the requirements of the district, and even an ordinary ram fair usually slumps well towards the end. There was a good attendance, but the weather, especially in the afternoon, was at times very unpropitious. FLOCK ROMNEYS. Shannon Bros., Feilding.—2s Jshear, Stewart, Hangaroa, 4gns. A. V.
