The Cabinet, after an all-day meeting, approved of measures to immediately balance Die 'Budget, the measures being presented in Die Chambers on. Tuesday. Ministers agreed to a 10 per edit, cut in flioir own salaries, and also 1o the following reductions in departmental estimates;— War: 30ft.OCO.OOI) frimes. Marine: 100,000.000 francs. Air: 200.000.000 francs. Each other department : 00.000,000 francs. Civil Service salaries; 200.000.000 francs. The income tax will be increased above 100 francs. There will be no reduction in i-x-----.oldicrs' pensions. There will be one yearly lottery, the profits being devoted to war victims. The pinch of the Budget is eausing M. Cheron to be overwhelmed with, protests nn<l appeals characteristic of The cupidity of the I-' i-oiici* mind, which is reflected in Deputy Taifinger’s bill to envoi' the deficit by means of a lottery, from which a daily prize of one million francs would he paid. The yearly revolt no is anticipated to be 12.000,000,000 francs. The par value of the franc in British coinage is 1.0.T2d.. there being 121.21 francs to the £.
